PAVEMENT JEWELLERY - SOLVE THE PUZZLE!
A series of 58 bronze ingots were designed and laid into the
pavement along Cowley Road in front of and relating to certain shops or landmarks. The ingots reflect the unique history and evolution of the road - a
kind of time capsule for the collective knowledge of the local
community for future generations.
Each ingot presents a puzzle to figure out its meaning and each ingot
has a pair. Find all 28 pairs then you can try to figure out a hidden
quote that connects them, which has a special significance to the area.

Soon the streets will be paved with gold and a strange and shiny mystery will unfold...
Pavement Jewellery was launched on the 18th November by Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor Robert Price.
It is a unique
public art work for the Cowley Road, Oxford created by artists Liam
Curtin, Katy Beinart, Emily Fuller, Helen McKeith, Gerard Hanson, Emma
Reynard and Jane Walton.
This commission is part of the InSite participatory public art commissions run by Fusion - Oxford's Community Arts Agency, and is the 5th commission completed as part of a community-led public Arts Programme in East Oxford, aiming to establish the central role of the arts in the long term regeneration of the area.
The work involved a range of creative approaches to find unique titbits of knowledge, diverse personal and social histories, odd facts and evolutions, which were creatively rendered into iconic images about the road's history and character.
Identify a pair, do a brass rubbing of them and send to Fusion with your interpretation and you could win a souvenir t-shirt!
Fusion are pleased to award Ian Balmer of Oxford the prize winning Bronze Ingot for being the first to solve the Pavement Jewellery puzzle!
Ian was the first to come up with the answer... and so receives the prize of the winning ingot bearing the secret inscription!
A delighted Ian said "I will give the ingot to my daughter, it's part of our history."
