Walk Space

20/06/2011

As part of the InSite Public Art Commission, artist David Little worked with local older community members to create a subtle and evocative art trail that passed through St Clements and Angel Meadow, starting and ending at Fusion Arts Centre on Princes Street.

To build the trail, a series of quotes were drawn from the words of older people who had described their sense of place and experience of walking in the community. These quotes were then literally infused into brickwork along the particular Healthy Walking route that inspired the project's route.

Stone-carver Simon Keeley inscribed many of the quotes along the route, while other quotes were imprinted on the pre-fired bricks at the Baggeridge Brick factory. In the end, ten quotes were carved or embossed into the walls along the route and some of the quotes were in languages other than English!
