Fusion: Oxford's Community Arts Agency

Brief History

fusion is Oxford's community arts agency and is based at East Oxford Community Centre. It was one of the first community arts organisations in the U.K and has undergone a series of structural and organizational changes throughout its history but the focus has always been community based arts activities.

It was established in 1980 by three local people who had developed a programme of participative performances events in the local parks, and were looking for a building from which to expand their work. Oxford City Council gave the organization the premises it still occupies, located at the rear of East Oxford Community Centre on Princes Street.

The company was registered in 1987 as 'bloomin arts' and received charitable status in 1998. It now operates as company limited by guarantee (2089425) & as a registered charity (1070805). The name changed from bloomin arts to fusion - oxford's community arts agency in June 2001 to accurately reflect the growth & widened horizons of the company.

It is currently managed by the following core staff: Artistic Director Tara Stewart (full time) and General Manager Pinelopi Mitsi (full-time) who are supported by a strong and committed Board of 9 people. Artists and project managers are brought in according to the current artistic programme in operation
