inSite was a major new Public Art Programme of community-inspired work which contributed to long term environmental improvement/regeneration of the area.
It was also the first participatory public arts programme in Oxford, as part of the national Regeneration Initiative managed locally by East Oxford Action.
InSite includes 5 public art commissions which aimed to engage specific marginalised groups of people with professional artists in their creation. It also focused on capacity building through it’s mentoring programme and was instrumental in the development of the Oxford Arts Network. It’s roll out significantly contributed to the visual ‘brand’ of East Oxford, public art in the city, and the regional and national debate defining the role of participation in building public art.
