Opportunities

Are you interested in the arts? Do you believe that the arts have an important social role to play in today’s world? Do you want to contribute to your community? If so, consider applying to become a trustee with Fusion Arts.

What our Board Members have to say:

'I was motivated to join Fusion Arts as I wanted to give back to the community, but also when I was younger, I used to turn to the theatre a lot as a way of escaping. So I wanted to be part of an organisation that helps & inspires others, especially when they are in situations that may not be ideal'.

Regina Ndhlovu, Co-Chair of Fusion Arts. She continues:

'By being part of this organisation, it helps the community but it also helps your career flourish, as you will be able to show that you have leadership skills for example.'

Call Out Artist/ Artistic Facilitator

About the project

Fusion Arts are currently developing a project in partnership with the Berinsfield community. We are looking for an artist to capture local stories, history and everyday life of the village.

Commission for Artists, Researchers, and Facilitators: Open Call for a community artist/artists, historian, and/or reminiscence officers to capture and document the formation of a community and social archive in Berinsfield.

Fusion Arts are working in partnership with South Oxfordshire District Council and local community groups to collect and record life in Berinsfield. We wish to document social history, experiences, hopes and dreams as well as the physical landscape of the village and surrounding area.

Through a collaborative process we are looking for an ‘reminiscence’ artist, or artists, to capture stories of Berinsfield. This body of work will form a social and physical archive of the village. This work will potentially feed into a larger project - of artworks created in collaboration with and by the community in the future.

Our aim is to explore the concepts and connections between individuals and their surroundings, establishing a meaningful legacy that adds value to the community.

Who we are looking for

You will have a defined practice, a ‘portfolio’ you can share, a proven ability to work to timelines, superb communication skills, an ability to work with communities. We welcome applications from contemporary artists working in any medium. Please note that this phase of the project is interactive, potentially conversational and about collecting stories and recording people and place in some way.

The work could include a number of participatory art workshops engaging in multiple arts activities or be more interview and research based. It is expected different methods will be applicable.

The project has the potential to develop and generate additional support for funding, highlighting the necessity for further financial backing to bring a tangible creation to life, such as a mural, sculpture, performance, festival, furniture, and more.

To apply, please submit the following:

  1. Three examples of your relevant work (please choose work that demonstrates your range and preferred medium - if linking to a website please indicate the relevant works you'd like us to consider)

  2. Two references that we can take up if shortlisted

  3. In your own words, tell us why you would like this commission and why you feel you are the right person to make it special and also what you might do. Keep it brief. We are very happy to accept a recorded verbal/video submission of no more than 5 minutes.

We are excited to hear from you!

Commission is £3,000, there is a small budget for materials of £500
